Godfather of graphic design

Sadly, Neil Fujita has died at the age of 89. He was responsible for a number of iconic designs including the Godfather identity and some rather lovely album (yes – you remember those) cover art. He has been an influence to many graphics designers, individually and more importantly, the design industry as a whole.

The Social Network. I’m sure we’re all aware that this film is based on Facebook – but don’t be put off by the subject matter! The film is surprisingly good, a gripping story line and atmospheric soundtrack. Worth a trip to the cinema just for the Timberlake performance alone.

Better three years late than never

A fitting memorial for Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records, designed by his friends Peter Saville and Ben Kelly. Wonderful minimalist style, including a beautiful quote found at the bottom of the headstone. However, Saville and Kelly’s work is three years late; Wilson died in 2007. Should it have taken three years to create this simply designed memorial headstone? In our opinion, yes it should. It portrays a great sense of presence, emotion and sentimentalism worth waiting for.

The new look Triodos Bank newsletter
